To continue Medical Miracle Month here at the farm, Bear and I made our triumphant return to our apartment after a weekend with his parents. Bear had been told that his kidney biopsy was scheduled for today, but nobody had told him when, and nobody had been available over the weekend who could tell him. Eventually, we decided to show up first thing at the imaging labs (which entailed getting up at 5 AM, good God), only to find out that the doctor who'd told him it was scheduled actually had not scheduled anything after all. Bear's a go for tomorrow morning now, but man. That's some five hours we coulda been sleeping, rather than running around the hospital.

Tonight, we were feeling culinary, and were pulling some salmon off the grill when about a quarter pound of sizzling salmon wriggled free of the spatula and landed square on my foot. Say with me: WTF OMG PAIN OH THE PAIN. I'm fine, but it needs to keep cold to keep from hurting for now, but ice is too cold to be good for burns.

Which is why I am now lying in bed with a sheet of Otter Pops wrapped in a gay pride flag beach towel, both of which are wrapped around my foot and tied with a bandana. Man, first aid Bear-style.

Time for bed. Biopsy tomorrow and all...

Hahaha! I know your foot hurts, but picturing it makes me laugh. :-)

Have you tried aloe? I burned myself a couple of times in the past few weeks, and aloe straight from the plant helped immensely. It smells like all heck (at least it does straight from the plant), but it works like magic.

5 HOURS?! If that wasn't hyperbole for dramatic effect, what the hell did they think you were doing hanging around there, just chillin' in the sterile recirculating air for your own health?

Also, you have an amazing ability to see the quirkily humorous even bad things (although give me the bad of your scalded foot over your description of Bear's headaches, any day). Although I seem to notice that Bear always figures into the quirky-part of the story...

Guess that's what makes you such a good couple - the ability to play off of each other's strengths to create something greater (and the rest of us get to share in the awesomeness of the resultant greater-thing)
